At the same time, Santa Fe, Medellín, Tolima and Millonarios, who was in second place after being eliminated from Libertadores, celebrate the latest announcements from the governing body of South American football, which has announced that their effort will be financially rewarded in the competitions that will be held in the coming months.
Conmebol announced this Friday that it will distribute for the first time prizes for matches won in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores and Sudamericana 2023 that will start in April.
“Prizes for matches won will generate more competitive matches and more attractive tournaments”expressed its owner Alejandro Domínguez.
The prize for each match won in the group stage of the Libertadores, the main club tournament on the continent, will be $300,000, while in the South American the amount amounts to $100,000, the institution detailed.
The parent company of South American soccer will distribute around 301,000,000 dollars in its club tournaments in totalwhich means an increase of $57,000,000 compared to the 2022 version (+21%).
The champion of the Libertadores will receive 18 million dollars and the one of the South American will receive 5 million dollars.
For the group stage of the Libertadores that will begin in April, the amount amounts to three million dollars per club (six games) plus a plus of 300,000 “for sporting merit” per game won.
For the round of 16, the prizes amount to $1,250,000; quarterfinals $1,700,000; semifinal 2,300,000; runner-up 7,000,000 and champion 18,000,000 dollars, in total 207,800,000 dollars.
Meanwhile, the Copa Sudamericana distributes $900,000 in the group stage plus a plus of $100,000 as sporting merit for each game won.
The group stage draw for the Copa Libertadores-2023 is scheduled for March 27 at the Conmebol headquarters in Luque, located on the outskirts of the Paraguayan capital.
Draw and cup dates
The Copa Libertadores from its group stage will begin on April 4, however, it will begin to beat on March 27 when the draw is held that will define how the four participants in each group will be. The games of this first round will go until the end of June, to later have the eighth between July 18 and 27.
Once the best eight of the competition remain, between August 22 and 31 the quarterfinals will be fulfilled, between September 26 and October 5 the semifinals will follow and the grand final in a single match will be the next November 11th.
As for the Copa Sudamericana, the draw that defines the fate of the three participating Colombians will be the same day as the Libertadores.
