Keanu Reeves and the director of John Wick 4 want to give the saga a break

After almost a decade embodying one of the great action heroes of recent times, it seems that the time has come for Keanu Reeves to stop. This is the opinion of the film’s director, Chad Stahelski, who thinks it is time for the character to take a break after john wick 4.

“In our minds, Keanu and I are done for now, we’re going to give John Wick a break,” Stahelski said. “I’m sure the studio has a plan, and if all goes well, we’re going to take a quiet minute.”

“For some strange reason, John Wick always opens later in Japan,” continues the director. “It’s always about three months later. If it’s the same now, we’ll do a Japanese tour and release the movie in September. Keanu and I will take a long trip to Tokyo, we will sit in the bar of the Imperial Hotel and say ‘What do you think? Shall we have a couple of 20 year old whiskeys and write some ideas down on a napkin?’ If those ideas fit together, we’ll make a movie.”

A universe with a lot to tell

And it is that both have been working together for nearly 10 years in no less than four films of the character. It all started with the death of his dog in John Wick (2014), to continue with John Wick: Blood Pact (2017) and John Wick 3: Parabellum (2019), until reaching John Wick 4, which opens next Friday 24.

However, this does not mean at all that the John Wick universe stops, since there are up to two different spin offs planned for different media. On the one hand, in a few months it will be released ballerina, starring Ana de Armas and Norman Reedus, and centered on a character that has previously been introduced in the movies. While, The Continental is a series focused on the well-known hotel, and it will arrive on Amazon Prime Video this year.
