Meta is working on a new application that seeks to compete with Twitter. What is it about?

With the passage of time, Twitter has become one of the most downloaded applications in the world. The platform has been a great ally for content creators, opinion leaders, the media, among many others, due to the direct interaction that the application allows.

Since the arrival of Elon Musk, Twitter has been making changes to its different services. For example, the tycoon decided to release a paid version, as well as a majority dismissal of the staff, which were in charge of providing support to the platform.

However, the apps will have strong competition, since Meta (company in charge of developing Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp) announced a new app that aims to compete with Musk’s platform.

The information was released through the official Meta news site, where it was detailed that the new social network is being programmed, which will allow the updating of texts in the middle of a publication.

“We are exploring an independent and decentralized social network to share text updates”, Meta stated.

The company also added that the new application is the space where content creators or famous people can share their interests with their respective followers.

“We believe there is an opportunity to create a separate space where creators and public figures can share updates about their interests,” the statement explained.

This new social network would use a technology that would allow the connection with other platforms, that is to say, that it will be possible to facilitate the delivery of digital services to citizens, companies and others; this is known as interoperability, a feature not available on Twitter.

This option helps prevent misinformation on Twitter

One of the main causes of the appearance of fake news it is the uncontrolled access, the anonymity, the abundance of data and the lack of regulation to publish content on the Internet. For this reason, it becomes increasingly difficult to trust content when it is in such an uncertain environment due to a lack of veracity and control.

To control this serious problem on Twitter, the platform has developed a public access tool called “Community Notes”, to do fact-checking processes and add context to some popular and viral posts.

According to Twitter, the objective of this tool is to prevent misleading posts, and also, in cases where one of the notes written by users is classified as useful by several people, This can be shown publicly so that there is more trust in that tweet.

At this time, “Community Notes” are only available to users in the United States, and context can only be added to posts from accounts of people living in the United States. It should be noted that some users around the world can access them, and even apply to be eligible as part of the collaborators who publish said notes.

How to be a collaborator of the ‘Community Notes’?

To be a collaborator and publish these notes, users must meet some requirements demanded by Twitter:
