Spotify confirms HiFi version with high quality sound, when will it be available?

Spotify confirmed that the HiFi lossless, high-quality sound version of the platform is still standing and will “come at some point”, noting that It was not released earlier because “the industry changed and we had to adapt.”

In that sense, the streaming music and podcast platform announced in February 2021 that it would launch a high-quality version known as Spotify HiFi. This novelty is characterized by incorporating an audio format with CD quality and without loss.

However, later, in January 2022, Spotify reported that it had no details on when high-quality audio would arrive on the platform, delaying this quality indefinitely.

Now, as stated by the co-president of Spotify, Gustav Söderström, in an interview with The Verge, the HiFi version is still on the way and has not been released during these years because “the industry changed for various reasons”.

In this sense, Söderström has clarified that Spotify HiFi will be launched, that “it will arrive at some point”, but that it will do it in a way that “makes sense” to both the company and the listeners. Thus, he has stressed that in case of launching it also has to “work” from the perspective of costs.

As The Verge has learned, this high-quality version of Spotify has been ready to launch on the market for more than a year. However, it was planned to be introduced in a subscription plan with a higher cost than the standard plan.

In addition to all this, it must be taken into account that other streaming music platforms already have this technology such as Apple Music or Amazon Music, that offer high-quality, lossless sound at no additional cost to the user.
