Spotify reveals its new design that incorporates artificial intelligence. What improvements did the ‘app’ receive?

Spotify has announced a new interface design with which it incorporates new features such as ‘Smart Shuffle‘ waves ‘preview‘ of playlists or ‘playlists’, albums and podcasts, in order to make more artists and creators known to its more than 500 million monthly active users.

The audio platform in ‘streaming‘ has announced these new features at the ‘Stream On 2023’ event, which took place this Thursday in Los Angeles (United States) and has brought together artists, composers, ‘podcasters‘, content creators “from around the world” to publicize the new tools.

In this sense, Spotify is committed to discovering talent in its new interface, which includes new visual elements and an interactive design. In this way, it aims to “foster deeper and lasting connections between creators and listeners.”

Specifically, the platform has added the function ‘Smart Shuffle‘ or smart shuffle. It is a way of adding new music to existing playlists created by users, simply by pressing a button.

The songs included in the lists can be played randomly by activating the button of this functionality in the upper right part. Now, by pressing this same button, you also have the option to activate intelligent shuffling, with which Spotify will introduce new songs into the queue of the ‘playlist‘ based on the user’s tastes and the type of music on the list.

another of the new features is the introduction of ‘previews‘ of ‘playlists‘, albums and podcast. On the home screen, users will be able to access the ‘Music’ or ‘Podcast & Shows’ tabs, located at the top, to discover personalized previews for each user.

Both visual and audio content can appear in these previews, showing a brief description of what you will hear or see.

Spotify has also included the ‘Autoplay‘ for podcasts. As was the case with music, Spotify will now offer automatic playback of these programs. Thus, when an episode ends, it will automatically start playing another episode based on the user’s preferences.

Other novelties that Spotify has presented but that, for the moment, are available in other territories, are the new ‘feeds‘ to the ‘Search’ section allowing users to scroll up or down to explore short ‘clips’ or short audio tracks from some of their favorite genres.

In addition, has also presented ‘Discovery Mode’a tool for artists to select which songs they consider priority. With this, Spotify will add this information to its recommendation and personalization algorithms to show them to users.

The music platform in ‘streaming‘ is also testing the feature with some artists and labels ‘showcase‘, which consists of a section in the new ‘feed’ of the home screen in which an artist’s music will be presented to “possible listeners”.

To build fan buzz, artists will also be able to add 30-second videos to their profiles and offer pre-release content in a new dedicated space on Spotify’s profile and home page, where artists followers will find exclusive videos and album downloads in advance.

Finally, Spotify is also implementing its DJ tool in some areas, which it already presented last February, and which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to recommend and comment on songs.

For all these reasons, Spotify co-chairman Gustav Söderström stressed that discoveries of new content on Spotify, “unlike many other platforms”, offer creators “much more than a fleeting moment of fame”.

“Those long-term, meaningful connections are a key part of what makes Spotify a platform for artists, both professional and aspiring,” he said.

tools for artists and podcasters

The company has also introduced some tools to help artists “grow their fan base” which will be implemented “soon” in the ‘Campaigns’ section of ‘Spotify for Artists’.

Among them is ‘Marquee’, which was released in December 2022, and consists of a full-screen sponsored recommendation of a new music release, focused on “reaching listeners who have shown interest in the music of a specific artist” , as explained by Spotify.

Facing the area focused on podcastsSpotify has announced the new version of ‘Spotify for Podcasters’, which brings together tools to “create, manage, grow and monetize your content”. Among these tools, some exclusive functions such as video podcasts stand out.
